A Study on the Relationships between Hardiness and Maternal Role Perception of Mothers during Puerperium

Abstract
This study was carried out to identify the relationships between hardiness and maternal role perception of mothers in the first 4¡­8 weeks after delivery. Data was collected by use of questionnaires from February 9 to March 5, 1996. Questionnaires were distributed at the 4th to 8th week of primiparious and multiparous(not showing complications after delivery and women with spouse) in one general hospital and one local clinic in Kwangju city, Korea. The instruments used for data collection were The Health-Related Hardiness Scale and The Clinical Tool for Assessing Adaptation to Motherhood ANOVA, Pearson
correlation coefficient and t-test were used for data analysis.

The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows :

1. For the hardiness, the mean score was 173.68, and far the maternal role perception,
the mean score was 75.49.
2. There was no significant correlation between hardiness and maternal role
perception, but there was significant correlation between control and maternal role
perception (r=-.250, p<0.01)
3. Hardiness was predicted by education and marriage satisfaction, and maternal role
perception was predicted by income and feeding method.
